Changing the PM's Speech

This is part of the PM's speech taken from Lim Kit Siang's blog:

“A hundred years of Merdeka would see this society, this nation achieve the unimaginable. We will have Nobel laureates, truly global corporations, respected and market-leading brands, internationally acclaimed poets and artists, among the largest number of scientific patents in the world and even the best football team in Asia.

“Our students and professors will dominate Ivy League universities and our own universities will be citadels of excellence for international scholars.

“We will be pioneers in alternative energy, drawing on our strength in biofuels. Our cities will be the most liveable on the globe, blending cosmopolitan facilities that are rooted in a tolerant and just societal ethos.
“This is the Malaysia in my dreams for 2057. One hundred years of independence, one hundred years of advancement.”

Since I think that speech is poor and incredulous, I have prepared a more appropriate speech.

"In the year 2057, Malaysia will celebrate 100 years of freedom. Though many will be sceptical, I am convinced that if we reform the government and implement fair and just policies, every Malaysian will have a rightful place in our nation.

Other countries with fewer resources have achieved great progress and so Malaysia should be prepared to learn from others. If we develop and retain all our human capital with opportunities for personal growth, Malaysia too will produce high achievers in all professions and even sports.

Already many Malaysians are well-known overseas in various professions and I believe we have the talents that can be developed for our nation’s progress. It is imperative that we retain their services for Malaysia.

In order to develop our human capital we need universities of excellence and so we will embark on the long task of upgrading the universities so that we will attract top notch professors and quality students.

We are improving the environment in our cities and making Kuala Lumpur flood free and squatter free is a top priority that will be achieved by 2020.

As a leading producer of palm oil, Malaysia has the potential to become a leader in bio-fuel technology and that will be our focus in alternative energy.

Malaysia can achieve much more by 2057. The task is great and the responsibility is ours. Let us work together and help Malaysia advance further for the next 50 years."

Dear Sir,

The Prime Minister is now looking at the country 100 years after independence. All well and good to have a vision, 2020, Multi Super Corridor, national car, twin towers, climbing mount everest etc

Unless you can sort out some very basic & fundamental issues, I suggest that Malaysia is all talk and no action. Consider the following:

(1) Flash floods in the heart of KL as lately as last week. If you can build twin towers surely flood mitigation measures are possible and must take priority

(2) KLIA despite repeated attempts, promises and threats the taxi touts still exist operating openly

(3) Look at the traffic and the attitude of drivers, they have no respect for the law or other road users. Life is cheap in KL

(4) Apart from KLIA the toilets in most public places is a disgrace. eg Central Markets, Taman Perdana. even Mega Mall

(5) The elderly, disabled and poor are not looked after, facilities are poor or non existent

(6) Corruption, cronyism and scratching each others back is still the modus operandi in business according to what I read in the local newspapers. Leaks, falling ceilings in brand new buildings??

(7) The civil service appears to be overstaffed, inefficient and carrying a lot of deadwood "work for life syndrome" No competition therefore complacency exists.

(8) Smart Tunnel has become Tunnel Bodoh (Flooded recently).

(9) The average wage for the lowly paid is well below the standard Ringgit $900 per month.

Malaysia has come a long way. Make no mistake, globalization, free competition and the internet are the very tools that Malaysia needs to catch up with the developed nations.

If you compare yourselves with third world Asian, African or Latin American countries then in the kingdom of the blind you look good. How about USA, England, Canada & Australia

The ultimate goal should be a very disciplined, educated and multiskilled country capable of competing with the very best the world has to offer. On this criterion Malaysis has a long way to go.

Keep working

Chris

Dear HJ,

Good speech by you, but too bad that the PM and many more will not read your blog and if they do, they fail to understand and continue their dreams. PM will contunue dreaming on his job and I believe he will wake up one day very soon in the near future to a rude shock and found our country is in deep deep troubles but you think he will care? he will just close his eyes and continue dreaming!!!
Keep up with your good works!! Syabas!
